Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the church?

Faith United has grown into a healthy and vibrant congregation. We currently have more than 850 active members and regular attendees that attend any one of our two Sunday worship services, children/youth activities and programs throughout the week. There is always something going on!

What time is your Sunday worship service?

We have three worship services each Sunday. Our 8:30 service is a traditional format with familiar hymns that meets in the sanctuary! Our 9:45 a.m. format is a contemporary worship service held in our Family Life Center.  The Chapel Service is at 11:00.  This service is held in the Chapel and will include prayer, a sermon, a couple hymns, and we will offer communion every week.

What do you offer for youth/children on Sunday morning?

Children are a special part of our congregation and we value them as full participants in the life of our church. Check out our Children and Youth information.

What do you offer for babies and toddlers?

Nursery care is provided for both infants and toddlers (to age 3) at all three services. Our infant nursery has a crib and infant/toddler toys, and is staffed by a trained and highly skilled caregivers. Little ones learn about God through stories, music, and activities.

Who goes to your church?

We have quite a mixture of people at Faith United. Our congregation truly spans the ages, from newborns to folks in their 90s. You’ll find just about every type of person here – married, single, divorced, widowed – professionals, workers, retired – life-long Stark County residents and those who have just recently moved here. But even more important than the kind of people who go here is the kind of people who are welcome here – everyone!

Do I have to belong to your denomination to attend?

Not at all! In fact, many in our congregation come from a church background other than United Methodist. We are a “patchwork” church – people with different church backgrounds “woven together” by God’s grace!

Do you have to dress up to attend your worship service?

Not at all! Dressing up is not a requirement to worship with us at Faith United. Some do wear their “Sunday best” but you’re also likely to see someone in slacks and a casual shirt, or even jeans. We believe the most important part about Sunday morning is showing up, ready to worship God.

What kind of things do you do in your worship service?

We strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at Faith United. We greet each other so everyone feels welcomed; we share announcements and church news; we sing and listen to our choir perform beautiful music; we share the congregation’s joys and concerns and lift them to God in prayer; we read the Bible and talk about it through the sermon; and we collect an offering to further God’s work.

Worship Engagement

Can a visitor take communion?

Yes! We take communion each week as a tangible reminder of God’s gift to us in Jesus Christ. We believe in open communion – that means that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is welcome to take communion, whether they are a church member or not.

Children and Communion
The United Methodist Church practices open Communion not limited to an age. What a blessing it is to think that our children may never know a time they weren’t welcome at the Lord’s Table! Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month at Faith United. Children may leave for Sunday School at the beginning of the service and return to worship at the end of the service so families can share Communion together.

Faith United values creating opportunities for children and families to experience Christ and explore their faith questions. Come-Union is an opportunity for Pastors Steve and Cara and our staff to spend a few moments with you and your children to answer questions you or they may have about the sacrament of Communion as the leftover bread and juice is consumed. This is a tangible and symbolic way to experience the abundance of God’s grace as it overflows from the Lord’s Table.
